In October 2020, Tim Morten, a former Blizzard developer, and Tim Campbell established Frost Giant Studios to create a playable real-time strategy game. Campbell had been the campaign lead designer for Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne, and Morten had previously served as the production lead for StarCraft II: Legacy of the Void.
They successfully raised $25 million in their January 2022 Series A funding, an additional $5 million in March 2021, and almost $5 million in seed funding.[5] In June 2022, Frost Giant made Stormgate’s debut. December 2023 saw the launch of a closed beta. Stormgate is anticipated to launch early access in February 2024 and to launch the full game a year later in 2025.
Why Early Access?
“A vast array of both existing and upcoming game modes can be found in Stormgate, a real-time strategy game. This includes 3P co-op vs. the AI, competitive 1v1 gameplay, the beginning of our ongoing campaign, and a few other experimental custom modes. That will eventually broaden to include 3v3 and our potent Editor.
We’ve discovered during our testing phases that the main reason we’ve advanced so much with every new build is because of the input we’ve received from players. We think that developing games in close collaboration with the community is still the best way to create games today, and Early Access is the logical next step in this process.
We can identify balance and gameplay issues more quickly and effectively than we could without the community’s assistance. We can establish a continuous, transparent communication channel with our players through Early Access, allowing them to actively participate in Stormgate’s development and expansion.

Why Kickstarter
The release of Stormgate has full funding. A portion of the motivation behind this Kickstarter is fan requests to be able to buy a physical Collector’s Edition of Stormgate. We believe we’ve created a very unique collectible for our most devoted fans, but to produce the Stormgate Collector’s Edition, we need our players to commit to paying the manufacturing costs.
Innumerable requests for beta access have also been made to us. It can become exceedingly costly to scale online multiplayer testing for a large audience—beyond our means without additional funding. We will be able to playtest Stormgate with a lot more players thanks to this campaign, which will be given as a thank-you for directly supporting the studio.
Music
We think it’s essential for Stormgate that our soundtrack rocks. To bring our game to life, our audio director Alexander Brandon (Unreal Tournament, Deus Ex) has put together a team of legendary composers and voice actors, including Frank Klepacki (Dune II, Command & Conquer series) and Tracy W.
