The challenging aspect of a game like American Truck Simulator—which is essentially driving a truck—is already backing up to connect to a trailer hitch; in real life, though, you have to maneuver your truck only on the level surface of the ground. From what I’ve played so far, I find that managing your X, Y, and Z axes is necessary to successfully dock in this game, and it’s a very tedious process.
My ability to fly in a straight line seemed to be severely hampered after I believed I docked my trailer upside-down on my first pickup. It never occurred to me that I could jackknife a truck in the middle of space, but I did, and I never really knew how to get back to normal until my editors started telling me it was time to stop space trucking and return to work.
That being said, Star Trucker’s vibes are so flawless that I can’t help but be impressed. All that cargo ain’t gonna deliver itself, so I want to get back in there and hone my piloting skills. Not that I’ll have to wait long for more—Star Trucker is scheduled for a full launch in 2024.
