Once Human Controller Support: Game Modes, and New Additions

once human controller support

Despite Starry Studio’s efforts to implement Once Human Controller Support, it is not yet available. Eldritch is a mouse-and-keyboard-only sci-fi survival game, so until proper controller support is added—which will be explained below—you cannot use an Xbox controller or PS5 DualSense. However, this could occur soon enough. Here’s everything you need to know about Once Human Controller Support.

Can you Play Once Human with a Controller?

The only way to get “official” controller support for the game in the Once Human betas was to add it as a non-Steam game and find a workaround. This meant that while you could theoretically still play the game with a controller, Steam essentially emulates keyboard keystrokes about controller button presses rather than using native inputs. But now that the entire game is out, it seems like full controller support was always planned.

The official Once Human X account shared this information in response to a query about whether or not players would be able to jump right in with a controller. User Seething Smiles asked a straightforward question, “Will controller support be ready at launch?” to which the response was, “available at the release.” This implied that you shouldn’t have needed to use any bypass systems to just plug in and start playing as soon as Human 1.0 was released. However, a wrench has been thrown into the works.

A response has been posted via the Once Human X account once more, explaining that although the “development team is actively working on changes,” controller support is simply not ready for launch due to “technical adjustments.” For those who were hoping to play the game with a controller straight away, this is a little discouraging, but we anticipate a quick update to fix this.

New Wilderness Game Modes

Opening Time: At 4:20 PM server time on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays.

Locations: An arbitrary community in the Blackheart Region, Lone Wolf Wastes, or Chalk Peak.

Rewards: With Nisa in the camp, Metas can trade Sproutletite for Sproutlets at a 1-to-1 conversion rate.

Rules: There are 20 minutes in this game mode. Five minutes after the event begins, sproutletite will begin to spawn and can be mined using a variety of techniques. PvP teams will comprise the metals within the event zone. When you are defeated during the event, you will drop more Sproutletite the more you carry.

Cross-Character Sharing for Paid Content

Cross-character sharing is now formally offered for premium content! All characters under the same account in the same region can share premium currencies (like Crystgin) and paid cosmetics. See the Once Human Cross-Character Sharing Rules announcement on our official website for further details.

How to use a Once Human Controller Support

  • Go to Steam/Settings/Controller after starting Steam.
  • I installed the Xbox Extended Feature Support Driver because I primarily use an Xbox controller with my PC, which necessitates a PC restart.
  • The controller name ought to appear at the top after you’ve restarted.
  • Enable Xbox Controller input for Steam.
  • Support for PlayStation Controller: Activated in Games Without Support
  • Not tried with a Nintendo Switch Pro controller, but I’ll give it a go if enough people ask.
  • Turn on steam input for generic controllers; I’m not sure if this is necessary, but I did it anyhow. That’s all in this menu.
  • If Steam has recognized your controller, go to the game and you should see Controllers Not Supported. Select “View Controller Settings.”
  • Although there are other options, I have enabled the Steam Community configuration by NickBrock11. Select the “browse community layouts” option that best suits your needs by clicking on it.
  • Since there wasn’t a community Playstation controller available, I had to make do with the keyboard (WASD) and mouse.

Conclusion

Despite prior expectations that it would be ready for launch, Once Human does not currently have full native Once Human Controller Support. Steam offers an emulation workaround that allows players to continue using controllers. Future updates are anticipated to include proper controller support, as the developers are actively working on technical adjustments. In the meantime, premium features and new game modes keep improving gameplay.
