The thrilling adventure Awakening Unknown 9 takes players into a world of mystery, secret knowledge, and superhuman powers. This series immerses players in a plot full of mysteries, riddles, and a sense of wonder about the untapped potential of humanity. It is a part of the larger Unknown 9 universe. This article explains the fundamentals of Awakening Unknown 9 and what draws mystery and adventure fans in.
A Fantastical Story with a Failed Implementation
Our protagonist Haroona, her mentor Reika, and the big bad guy Vincent Lichter are introduced in The Awakening Unknown 9. Quaestors, like Reika and Haroona, can see the “Fold” and use it to perform a variety of tricks, such as manipulating others.
Reika and Haroona are attempting to stop Vincent, the Ascendents’ leader, from hatching a sinister scheme at the beginning of the game. She is killed in front of Haroona after failing to stop him, which initiates the latter’s revenge story.
Later, Haroona meets with the crew of the Morning Star, an Airship, Luther Goodwin, Buchra, and the other members of the remaining Leap Year Society. In summary, the crew searches for Vincent collectively and attempts to halt his actions. However, there is more.
Bugs, Bugs and More Bugs
The numerous bugs I encountered while playing Unknown 9: Awakening were the most annoying features of the game. I seriously doubt that, even though this review is based on a preview copy and the game might have bugs fixed by the time it’s released.
The Simple Annoying Ones:
First up is the most basic and vexing bug: the inability to pick up collectibles. I’ve had to spend a lot of annoying time trying to get the Collect prompt on objects on the ground or table because of this problem, which has persisted throughout the game. You have to circle the prompt until you get lucky because of this bug, which causes it to vanish when you are close to it.
The Game-Breaking Ones:
Let’s now discuss the numerous game-breaking bugs I encountered, which required me to restart checkpoints. First, enemies may become stuck in midair if they are dragged or shoved off the cliffs. As you can see, this locks the battle and keeps you from getting to them. It’s crazy that this bug occurred in the tutorial itself.
The game then has puzzles, which I haven’t discussed yet because they call for the least amount of mental effort. On several occasions, though, I got stuck on a puzzle—not because it was hard, but rather because there were no prompts. After reloading the final checkpoint, I discovered that it was bugged, which left me perplexed as I had no idea how to fix it.
You become trapped inside an enemy while Stepping, unable to stop the Stepping or deal any damage, which is another game-breaking bug. Overall, the fluidity of the game disappointed me, and I sincerely hope that these issues are resolved.
Graphics and Performance
Although Unknown 9 Awakening has a respectable appearance, it lacks a clear sense of identity about its surroundings. After just a glance, I discovered that the game was made using Unreal Engine 5, which is not a good thing. While there were some nice spots, most of it felt unstyled.
Apart from that, there is very little emotional reflection in the game’s character expressions, which are terrible. I could have put up with this in a game that was really big or that came out in the 2010s, but a small, linear, story-driven game shouldn’t be exempt.
Performance-wise, the game experienced frequent frame drops when moving between battles or when entering a visually appealing area, and this isn’t even using the highest graphics settings with RTX turned off.
My frame rate was between 70 and 80 for the majority of the game, but when it dropped to 30 or even 15 frames per second, it made me unhappy. The fact that my RTX 40 series card can easily run more demanding games at higher settings is the most annoying feature.
Conclusion
Players are introduced to an intriguing world of mystery and superhuman abilities in Awakening Unknown 9, but technical problems overshadow the game’s compelling plot. The immersion of the game is diminished by frequent bugs, poor graphics, and erratic performance. Notwithstanding its potential, the game requires significant improvement to live up to player expectations.
